Overview

Zinsser B-I-N is a shellac-based primer, sealer and stain killer ideal for use on interior surfaces. This formulation can also be used to spot prime exterior surfaces including metal, trims, PVC and wood. Along with an extremely good adhesion to glossy surfaces, Zinsser B-I-N can seal bleeding knots, sap streaks, and permanently block odours from smoke and nicotine. Its dried film is non-toxic and hypo-allergenic, it may be used in areas where incidental contact with food items occur.

Preparation

Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, algae, fungi or moss. Also ensure the product is free from excessive chalky material, grime, grease, oil, wax, mould or any contamination that may interfere with adhesion.

• Always wash the surface with a household cleaner, appropriate cleaning solution, or solvent
• Always ensure to remove loose or flaking material
• Sand any remaining paint to a smooth surface
• Sand exterior wood with a 80-100 grit sandpaper
• When sealing a stain always attempt to remove as much of the stain as possible prior to application

Application

Before applying stir the product thoroughly and test a small area.

• Zinsser B-I-N does not require thinning
• Only apply when temperature range is between 1°C - 32°C
• Apply one coat with a brush, roller or sprayer
• For best results prime the entire surface
• If excessive absorption occurs over very porous substrates a second coat may be necessary
• Spot priming is recommended only under high-hiding topcoat paints
• Thinning the product may affect its stain blocking properties
