Preparation
Always ensure the surface to be painted is clean and free from dirt, dust and grease.
Bare Wood
- Lightly sand the window or door to even out imperfections and leave a smooth surface.
- Remove any dust and wipe the surface down by dampening a cloth with white spirit.
- If there are any holes or cracks fill them with a wood filler such as or .
- Block any knots with a knot blocker.
Previously Painted Wood
- For surfaces which are sound, lightly sand with a 240 grit sandpaper. If the surface is flaking use a 120 grit sandpaper and take it back to the barewood.
- Let the dust settle and wipe it away with white spirit and a cloth.
- If there are any holes or cracks fill them with a wood filler such as or .
- Any rotten wood must be treated with prior to filling.
- Block any knots with a knot blocker.
Application
We recommend performing a test to ensure compatibility, always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.
- Stir the tin well to make sure the colour pigment has been throughy mixed and all lumps and bumps are gone.
- Apply using a synthetic brush working in the direction of the wood grain.
- Allow the first coat to dry for four hours before apply another coat.
- Once the second coat is dry if you can still see the grain apply a third coat as above.
Aftercare & Storage
Cleaning
Regulary clean your windows and doors to remove dirt and grime and keep them in better condition for longer.
Maintenance
If you notice any spots of damage, sand down the section until smooth and add a coat or two until repaired.
